The ISF is proud to announce it has officially joined the Sports for Generation Equality Initiative, in the framework of the Generation Equality Forum which took place from the 30 June to 2 July 2021 in Paris having begun earlier in the year in Mexico City, gathering for gender equality under the organisation of UN Women.
With its strong alignment with the values and goals of ISF, it was a natural step for ISF to officalise its commitment the Sports for Generation Equality Initiative to accelerate progress on a set of common principles and aligned objectives that will harness the power of sport in making gender equality a reality in and through sport.
See in the video below the ISF commitments:
The forum provided an opportunity to reaffirm the value of multilateralism, and bring together various stakeholders such as businesses, cities, governments, international organisations, media, and more, with a focus on intergenerational and multi-stakeholder partnerships. With over 25 years since the historic Fourth World Conference on Women and the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, the Forum discussed and took note of the progress and concrete actions in place to accelerate progress towards gender equality.
Creating financial and political commitments for gender equality, the aim of the forum was to bring about multi-sector movement to ensure action and accountability, representing a tremendous opportunity to advance women’s rights and ensure that gender is the centre of the post COVID-19 agenda.
This commitment follows previous actions on the side of the ISF regarding gender equality, with the ISF communicating in the context of International Womens' Day on 8 March of this year, the importance of such actions and initiatives within the ISF, and their significance in the development of youth. Furthermore, 8 March is a day which holds a great deal of significance in the ISF calendar, with the next edition of ISF She Runs - Active Girls' Lead taking place from the 7-12 March 2022, in the city of Brussels.
ISF President Laurent Petrynka: "To prepare for the future of young people, and have even more inclusive organisations within which the presence of women is no longer discussed, but guaranteed; this is the commitment of the ISF."
