On November 2-3, the ISF Management Committee met in Heraklion (Crete), Greece. This meeting was the last one before the Executive Committee that will take place in Mumbai, India, in the month of December. The MC members were also received officially by the mayor of the city of Heraklion, Mr. Vasilis Labrinos.
The MC mainly discussed future ISF events: for what concerns WSCs, bids for all the 2019 events were confirmed. All the bidding committees will have the opportunity to present their candidature and bid books during the next Executive committee.
Regarding the Gymnasiade, the dates of the 2018 event in Morocco were approved: the 2018 Gymnasiade will take place on May 15-22. Furthermore, it was announced that four countries bid for the 2020 event: China PR, Chinese Taipei, Hungary and India. An ISF evaluation commission will visit the four countries between January and August 2017 and assess the bid progresses. A final decision on the host of the 2020 Gymnasiade will be taken in fall 2017, during the Executive Committee meeting taking place in Sardinia.
The fact that, for the first time, four countries have confirmed their interest in hosting the ISF mega-event is a proof of the progresses made by the Federation in the last years and indicates a growing global interest in youth- and school-sport.
