EUROPEAN WEEK OF SPORT: ISF PRESIDENT PARTICIPATED IN THE PANEL DEBATE ON THE ROLE OF EDUCATION IN MAKING YOUTH ACTIVE

Espoo, 23 September 2019 – ISF president Mr Laurent Petrynka and ISF Deputy Secretary General / CEO Mr Kole Gjeloshaj are in Espoo, Finland for the Opening of the European Week of Sport 2019 where Mr Petrynka participated in a panel debate on the role of education in making youth more active.

Under the Finland's Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the fifth edition of the European Week of Sport opened today in Espoo, Finland. Among the attendees was also Mr Tibor Navracsics, Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport at the European Commission.

ISF president Mr Laurent Petrynka participated in the panel debate on the role of education in making young people more active. He advocated for schools to feature one hour of physical education per day.

In the debate, Mr Petrynka was joined by Mr Jean-Claude Coubart, Chairman European Healthy Lifestyle Association (EHLA), Ms Kaisa Bloomberg, 2018 #BeActive Education Award winner and the moderator of the session Ms Barbara Spindler-Oswald from the Federal Ministry for the Civil Service and Sport, Austria.

The seminar on "How to make young people more active" was the main focus of the day one. Day two will feature a conference on safeguarding children in sport.

Within the framework of the 2019 European Week of Sport, ISF will organise the 'She Runs, Active Girls' Lead' post event conference which will take place in Brussels on the 27 September 2019. The conference will focus on the topic: Toward improving young women's health and leadership through sport and education; taking place between 9.00 and 12.30 in the International Press Centre, in the Euractiv office located at 1, Boulevard Charlemagne, B-1041, Brussels, Belgium.
