Light on Jinjiang - Gymnasiade Schools Summer Games 2020 host

The Gymnasiade – School Summer Games is an international multi-sport event gathering more than 3000 young athletes from schools all around the world not only to compete with each other in multiple disciplines but mainly to share and enhance the main values of ISF based on belief that sport is a prevailing tool for the promotion of mutual understanding, peace and tolerance and can greatly contribute to the physical, social and intellectual development of youngsters.

On October 15th, in the city of Olbia (Italy) took place the official ceremony for the host city of the Gymnasiade - School Summer Games 2020. The cities of Budapest (Hungary), Jinjiang (P.R China), Taoyuan (Chinese Taipei) got well prepared to deliver their final speeches in this long race of 18 months of bidding process. As a witness of this historic moment for the development of School Sport, the ISF had the pleasure to welcome Marta Pagnini - London 2012 Olympic Champion who shared her vision regarding the dissimination of Olympic values in school sport.

After the 3 presentations of these three high level bidding dossiers, the ISF Executive Committee members gave the mission to the city of Jinjiang (China) to prepare and host the major ISF event in a bit more than 4 years. After 52 years the Gymnasiade - School Summer Games will go back to China. You can watch again the video of the ceremony and candidates presentation here.

Important garantees has been presented by high level representives from the country such as Mr Li Ruiyu Ambassador of China in Italy, Mr Tian Xuejun – Vice Minister of Education, Liu Wenru – Head of Jinjiang City,  Huang QiYu - Vice Governor of Fujian Provincial People's Government, Yang Liguo- Vice President of China School Sports Federation. 

During its presentation the chinese delegation showcased their will to deliver the biggest Gymnasiade - School Summer Games of ISF by implementing the ISF Vision 2030 in various aspect of the event such as number of sports and quality of infrastructures, a specifc education program, economical model, cultural aspects, transportation, communication. The ISF President - Laurent Petrynka after the ceremony ''The three candidate cities demonstrated really high level plans which showed their clear understanding of the ISF Vision 2030. I would like to sincerely congratulate these three ISF members who all  together inspired along this bidding process the whole ISF members and the school sport network, thus, raising the bar for school sport as a tool for education, peace, gender equality, youth empowerment, health. Of course, I would like to specifically congratulate China who is a long term partner of the ISF I'm convinced they will deliver an historic event. They already showed it in 1968 and everytime they hosted ISF events''
